Busy, busy, busy.

Lots of stuff is happening right now.

I had my 6-month appointment a couple of weeks ago (on the 16th).
At that time I was 28 inches long and weighed 18 pounds 5 ounces. Mom swears I've grown since then.

I've been eating lots and lots of new things. I've liked almost all of them. I wasn't sure about the bananas at first, but after a couple of days they tasted fine. They were just really weird the first time I tried them. Today mom gave me something new that I'm really not sure about. I ate a few bites, but I'm not sure I like it. She said it's called "beef". I suppose I'll give it another try at some point, but I really wasn't interested in it today.

We went to my grandma's house for something called "Thanksgiving". There were lots and lots of people there and it kind of freaked me out at first, but mom and dad were right there and they told me it was ok and I calmed down a bit and visited with some of my relatives. Mom let me have a taste of her pumpkin pie and it was yummy.

A couple of nights ago my mom and dad started making me sleep all night long in my crib. I was really unhappy about it the first couple of nights, but I guess it's ok now. I have a teddy bear that's almost as good as snuggling with Mom. Mom calls it my Squishy Bear. I just know that its ear is really good to suck on and it's very soft and fuzzy and good to hold on to while I'm falling asleep.

And I crawled today. Not very far, but it was a definite crawl. I finally figured out how to coordinate the arms and legs together. I can't do it every time, but I've figured out how it's supposed to work, so now I just need to practice. But Mom keeps taking away all the fun things I find when I'm crawling around - cords, papers, CDs. They're much more interesting than all my other toys.

I think that's everything important that has happened since the last time Mom had time to type for me.

Ha!

I got to eat carrots last night.
They tasted weird and I'm not sure whether I like them or not.

But I pooped orange this morning, and that was funny.

Food!!

Mom's been busy at work this past week, so she hasn't had time to write for me. Then there was something wrong with her computer too. But it's all better now so I can tell you that Mom and Dad finally started giving me real food. They call it "rice cereal" but I know what it really is. It's FOOD! I've been telling them for ages that I want to eat what they eat, but they just don't listen. I think they're still saving the good stuff for themselves, because my cereal is kind of bland, but I'm eating off of a spoon instead of out of a bottle. Of course that's only once a day and I have the bottle (or mom) the rest of the time, but it's a start.

I really want pizza, though.

Fun stuff

So we aren't camping on the weekends anymore. I had fun at that place that mom and dad call "fest" but I like being at home too - I get my food a lot faster here.

I have some new fun toys. One is a big yellow thing mom puts me in and I can push myself around on the floor. Mom calls it a "walker" but I'm not really walking because only my toes really reach the floor, so I'm just pushing myself around with those.

I've also now started being able to play in my highchair. It's fun. When I drop stuff over the side it takes longer for it to hit the ground than it does in the other places I sit.

Today I'm sitting with Dad on the couch watching the pictures move on that neat glowy thing in the corner. Dad says that what we're watching is called "football" and it's very important. I don't really get it but I like to watch the little people moving around in there.

That's all for now. Mom says she has too much cleaning to do to spend any more time typing for me.

Busy

Mom is too busy to type for me right now.

There's lots of stuff going on in my life. I can do a lot of things that I couldn't before (my toes taste terrible, by the way) and I'm interested in everything.

But you'll have to hear about it later because mom has work and school during the week and on the weekends we go camping so she doesn't have a computer then.

This is the life.

Mom hasn't updated my journal much lately. I'd do it myself, but I haven't quite figured out how to make my fingers work independently so typing is a bit tricky. Plus I don't actually know my letters yet.

Mom's been busy. It was a weird week last week. We spent days away from home - some of them at grandma's and some of them somewhere else. We spent a long time in the car going out to "The Res" and went to my grandpa's funeral. One of my grandpas, anyway. I still have another one. I didn't really understand what was going on. There was lots of talking, and some singing, and some really loud drums. They startled me at first, but I kind of got used to it. Then we spent a long time in the car again and finally went home. Then a couple of days later we went to another funeral for him at his church. That one was more fun. Probably because it was earlier in the day and I wasn't so sleepy. I liked the music, and there was lots of it, and the drums didn't bother me at all this time.

Other than that, I've been doing some other things in the past couple of weeks. I found my toes, and I think they're really neat. I've only managed to touch them once or twice, but I like looking at them and wiggling them. I've also gotten better at rolling over, though I still can't do it regularly.

Mom thinks it's really neat that I've learned to laugh. I like to talk too. Vowel sounds are fun. My favorites are "ah" and "eh".

Mom posted some more pictures of me on her photobucket page: http://s257.photobucket.com/albums/hh233/Tiyanath/

I think that's everything. If I think of anything else I'll make mom type up another post.

Ow!

My mom took me to the doctor yesterday. It hurt. They stabbed me three times! And made me drink some icky stuff. Mom says it's all something called immunizations. I guess it's supposed to stop me from getting sick. I don't really care about that. All I know is that it hurt. I screamed (and it made mom cry). They told mom that some babies have reactions to that stuff, but I didn't. I'm fine now.

They also said that I weigh 13 pounds now. And I'm just over two feet tall (24 3/4 inches). My head is now 16 inches around.

Mom's been taking pictures of me again. It's kind of annoying because of the bright light flashing in my eyes. She says to tell everyone that she'll have some new pictures posted sometime this week.

Today's accomplishment

I rolled over.

Mom put me on my stomach and I rolled onto my back.

All by myself.

It was pretty cool. I have no idea how I did it, and I haven't been able to do it again, but it was neat.

What I learned today

Dude!

I can move stuff!

I hit it with my fist and it moves!

And to make it even cooler, some of my stuff makes noise when I move it.

It's the best new game ever.

Note from Mom

Mom
So apparently I'm a little slow on the uptake.
I figured out just this week (after 6 weeks of diaper changing) that there's a stripe on each diaper that changes color when the diaper is wet.
I didn't know this. I've been either sticking my finger in the diaper or opening it up to find out if he had peed.
Now I just look to see if the yellow stripe has turned green.

Ain't technology great?

Mom
The kid may have won yesterday, but today I win.

He is sleeping *in his playpen* rather than needing to sleep in my lap.

It's entirely possible that I might actually get something done today.

If nothing else, at least I can eat breakfast.

That counts as a win in my book.

So I finally had my first real diaper explosion today.
I've tried to do it before, but all I've managed is a little poo leaking out onto the sides of my clothes.
Today I managed a real one.

Mom had to clean my poo off of not only myself and her (I pooed on her leg!) but also off of the remote control for the TV.

I so win.

Baby's First Post

Ok, so the baby isn't actually posting yet. He's actually sleeping (for once).

For the curious, the LJ name is Daddy's fault.  The full name is Nicopotamus Crankypants, but that was too long for an LJ name.  Dad made up the first name, Mom chose the last name.  Not really on purpose, it just worked out that way.

I have yet to decide whether this journal will be from mom's perspective, or from baby's perspective (as imagined by mom).

Or some of each...

Oh look.  He's no longer sleeping.  Now he's hungry.

Gotta go.
